Now more than ever, it is time to speak up and take
action to make Central Indiana a truly racially
equitable place to live and work. That’s why the greater
Indianapolis business community, its civic organizations
and the City of Indianapolis have come together pledging
their resources, influence, and time to create a more
equitable city for everyone.
A Pledge for Racial Equity
“We pledge to take meaningful action to address the
issues of racial equity and justice in Central Indiana.
As leaders in this community, we must hold one another
accountable for creating short- and long-term change for
African Americans. We pledge to share our progress
toward the goal of a racially equitable community.”
IN CENTRAL INDIANA
African Americans are less likely to have the access
to, use of and quality of health care.
African Americans receive lower pay, have fewer
financial assets and fewer opportunities to grow their
African American children, on average, are given lower
grades and receive more out-of-school suspensions.
African American males are disproportionately arrested
and incarcerated, which in turn disadvantages African
American families and children.
